‘Back To The Past’ by Tom Evans (February 2010)

From an internet blog site inviting others to contribute their memories of Castle Vale’s tower blocks, reconstructing them through 3D modelling and animation.  The work is fascinating in the nature of recall, memory and stories which represent ‘well-being capital’.  See Related Websites section (right) to view the animation.

Castle Vale PhotoGrid (October 2009)

A Photogrid project was completed by some Year 10 and 11 pupils at Castle Vale High School. A regular grid was drawn over a map of Castle Vale, with each intersection point on the grid marked as the location for a photograph. The team of pupils visited locations and took one or more photographs. The photographs from each location were gathered together and exhibited in a formation that matched the grid drawn over the original map. Results can be viewed in the Dowloads section (right).

This work allowed the pupils to make a visual statement about their living environment which was useful to the Well-being Project. Additionally, they gathered evidence for their Princes Trust awards, gaining experience in using maps and photography whilst examining their local community.

This project will be repeated over the coming months using different sets of photographers to examine the differences in images captured by distinct demographic groups.
